Ipeti Embera, Panama
We have partnered with Global Brigades, a nonprofit which works in Central America to alleviate poverty, to build our first community-managed passive solar fruit dehydrator in Ipeti Embera, a rural indigenous community in Eastern Panama. The system was built in March and they've been improving it and testing dried fruit since then. Since, teams of students from the Universities of West Virginia and Arizona State have traveled to the site and worked to further develop the business. We are expecting a small shipment of dried fruits in August to sample the product, and expect full production to begin early next year. Nearby communities have also expressed their interest with the dehydrator, and we are looking forward to expanding the project here!
